News from the Serving Hatch
Christmas Lunch
Our cooks have been working hard, preparing for the Christmas lunches, and last year over 19,500 of you had a Christmas lunch – just think of all that work, preparing the dinners, cooking and the mountain of washing up too.
You get a full Christmas meal, just like at home and festivities and gifts too. We hope you enjoyed the meal this year, do tell Oscar if you did – he would love to hear from you. We will let you know how many meals we served this year.
Not as Naughty, Just as Nice
Look out for the tempting fish and chips dinners, starting in January 2008. It is possible to have a healthier option of this popular meal.

What else is happening?
New Kitchens
Some of our kitchens are being modernised, to provide your hard working cooks with modern, state of the art equipment. This means they can use even more fresh ingredients in your meals.
Helping Out with Healthy Tips
We have been busy working with other people, telling them about our work and how a healthy diet can help a healthy lifestyle. This has included displays and information, interactive exercises to check heart rates, blood pressure and body mass index – did any of your family take part? We went to Dagenham Market, Vicarage Fields and had support from members of the Dagenham and Redbridge football team.
Packed Lunches
We provide a packed lunch service for school trips or you can have a packed lunch instead of a hot two course meal. Our packed lunches come in a small handled carrier bag, meet the School Food Trust criteria and we can provide a vegetarian option.
Just out of the Oven - Nursery Pupils
Catering Services had a very successful afternoon at the Valence dining hall, where we introduced some new and exciting food to our youngest customers. The nursery pupils bought adults from their nursery to join in the fun, and you can see from the pictures what fun they had.

Wraps, Baguettes and Deserts
Don’t forget we have some exciting and still healthy ‘fast food style’ meals on offer, as well as our 2 course set menu dinners. Including wraps, baguettes and we also have some lovely desserts on offer for you to try, just look at some of the food that we do.
