What the government says we have to do
These healthier choices should be on our menu
More fruit and vegetables – at least two choices offered a day, one must be vegetables, one must be fruit.
Oily fish - (mackerel / salmon) must be served at least once every two weeks.
Bread must be available every lunchtime.
Drinking water - Free, fresh drinking water must be available at all times.
Healthier drinks – We can only serve water, pure fruit juice, milk, yoghurt and milk drinks with less than 5% added sugar, and low calorie hot chocolate, tea and coffee.
These choices are restricted or not allowed
No confectionery – No chocolate bars, chocolate coated biscuits and sweets are allowed at lunch time.
No savory snacks – snacks like crisps are not allowed. Only nuts or seeds with no added salt are allowed.
No salt – Salt must not be allowed at lunch time.
Less condiments – ketchup and mayonnaise can only be allowed in sachets.
Less deep fried food – Menus must not have more than two deep-fried food, like chips or batter coated food, in a single week.
Manufactured / processed meats restricted – food like chicken nuggets, burgers and sausage rolls can only be provided occasionally and must have a minimum amount of meat in them.
No fizzy drinks – sweetened fizzy drinks like Coke, Pepsi, lemonade are not allowed.
